COMMERCIAL BOARDWALKS

DEFINITION
Boardwalks can be made of treated wood, composite recycled materials, or stone. The type of material used to build the boardwalks needs to be determined based on the environmental considerations of each project.

USES
Boardwalks are typically built near and around waterways or throughout wetlands above fragile ecosystems. Boardwalks can be built to help with pedestrian traffic flow, and are also used in commercial areas to enhance commerce in areas where roadways and paved sidewalks would be too costly to build. State of MN DNR, commercial retail developers, and municipalities can build boardwalks to enhance the life and travel experience of people visiting in the state of Minnesota.

INSTALLATION OR BUILD
Since boardwalks are typically constructed from wood, treated plastics or small block pavers, the only heavy construction equipment needed is for grading the flat surfaces or building up dirt underneath where the boardwalk will be installed. The remaining installation is all done by hand.
